All of the stones we use to create our handcrafted Pyrite key-rings are carefully selected by our expert team who look for beautiful crystal structures, unique imperfections and all around exquisite examples. Once the team have selected the specimen’s they are moved to the preparation room where they are individually cleaned, dried and hand polished in preparation for our stone technicians.
Each stone is then cataloged and analysed to determine the optimum drill point to facilitate the creation of a resilient and beautiful piece. The stones are hand drilled using diamond coated drill bits, water cooled to protect both specimen and equipment. Where possible the stones are drilled between 8-18mm to allow for an extra secure bond. The screw eye pin is then secured into the piece with a two-part epoxy resin for the ultimate long lasting hold. Finally, the split ring and keychain are attached before the item is sent to the warehouse to be prepped for dispatch.
Our Pyrite key-rings are available with Silver, Chrome, Matte Black, Antique Brass or Gold split rings & chains. If you like a particular specimen listed but would prefer a different coloured key chain please reach out and we will do everything we can to get your item just right! We even offer a stylish gift wrapping for that extra special touch! As a species we have valued precious & semi-precious stones for thousands of years. We have worn them around our necks, on our fingers, and even on our toes.
About Iron Pyrite: The name “pyrite” originated from the Greek “pyr” meaning “fire.” It earned its name from its ability to create sparks when struck against metal or other hard materials. Pyrite’s metallic appearance and pale yellow/brass hue give it a superficial resemblance to gold, hence its well-known nickname “Fools Gold”.
It is distinguishable from native gold by its hardness, brittleness and crystal form. However, the two minerals do often form together, and in some deposits pyrite contains enough included gold to make it cost effective to mine. It is usually found with other sulfides or oxides in quartz veins, sedimentary rock, and metamorphic rock, as well as in coal beds and as a replacement mineral in fossils such as ammonites. Pyrite usually forms cuboid crystals. However, under certain circumstances, it can form astonishing filaments, t-shaped crystals and even dodecahedrons, known as pyritohedra.
